KEY POINTS
SUPPORT TO BE INVOLVED FATHERS
How well dads are supported predicts how involved a father is with his children including
- Being a dad is important to their identity
- They are confident in their fathering abilities
- They are supported in their role of being a dad
Active Dads hopes to involve granddads and other dads to help rebuild this support network for dads so they can confidently be more involved with their children.
“Supporting other dads to be the best version of themselves is a key strategy to raising the next generation of resilient, capable, respectful and confident young adults” - John Corlett, Active Dads
SEEKING GRANDADS
It is staggering to know that almost half (47%) of ill health and death amongst males is from preventable diseases including cardiovascular diseases, mental health conditions/substance use disorders and injuries & musculoskeletal conditions. Regular exercise is essential in preventing and managing these diseases. Source here
“So for grandads it’s a win win, they get to help the new generation of dads by passing on their wisdom and guidance, and they can get a bit healthier playing a game of soccer with the grandkids while doubling the chance they will still be here tomorrow to see them grow up.” - John Corlett, Active Dads
GOOD OUTCOMES FOR KIDS
Children with involved fathers have a strong foundation for child well-being. They are at lower risk for a host of poor childhood outcomes including:
- Emotional and Behavioral Problems
- Issues with the law
- Alcohol and Substance Abuse
- Suicide
“I have a passion for the unique role a father figure plays in the development of children from the moment they enter the world right through their early 20's and beyond” - John Corlett, Active Dads
KEEPING MEN HEALTHY
It is staggering to know that 47% of ill health and death amongst males is from preventable diseases including cardiovascular diseases, mental health conditions/substance use disorders and injuries & musculoskeletal conditions. Source here
Regular exercise is essential in preventing and managing these diseases.
Around 80%of men indicate they would be very unlikely or unlikely to seek help from a helpline like Lifeline. Research shows that activity and purpose are important factors to engage men and get them talking about the issues they are facing. Source here
